Shannon M Kent was a US Navy Chief Cryptologic Technician who tragically lost her life in the 2019 Manbij bombing in Syria. Born in 1983 in New York, Shannon joined the Navy in 2003 and quickly rose through the ranks due to her proficiency in multiple languages. She was married to Joe Kent, the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, and had two young sons at the time of her passing. Shannon received a posthumous promotion to senior chief petty officer and was honored with the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Ribbon among other accolades.
