US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been accused of lying to a Congressional panel about President Donald Trump's sleep patterns.

During a hearing before the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, Democratic representative Ted Lieu of California questioned Rubio about Trump's condition, playing video footage that appeared to show the president dozing off during official meetings.

Rubio denied the allegations, insisting he had never seen Trump fall asleep during a meeting and describing the line of questioning as 'ridiculous'. However, Lieu argued that the footage raised legitimate concerns about the president's ability to perform his duties.

The exchange comes amid renewed discussion about Trump's health, with some questioning his appearance and public schedule in recent weeks.

The White House has maintained that the 79-year-old president remains in good health, with a medical summary released following Trump's recent examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center concluding that he is 'fully fit' to carry out his duties.
