Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged unwavering support to Iran's new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, amid escalating tensions in the region.

Putin's message to Khamenei comes as Israel reports new missile launches from Iran, with several blasts rocking central Israel on Monday.

Heavy explosions were also heard in several parts of Tehran, the Iranian capital, but it was unclear what was targeted.

Israel had launched a fresh wave of strikes in central Iran, targeting security sites and missile launch sites.

Iran has continued retaliatory strikes on Gulf nations, with Bahrain sounding sirens and urging citizens to reach a safe place amid Iranian threats.

Saudi Arabia said it had downed four Iranian drones heading towards Shaybah oilfield, while the United Arab Emirates said its air defence systems were responding to a missile attack.

The conflict in West Asia has entered its second week, with Iran appointing its new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who is the son of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Islamic Republic has launched its first wave of missiles under Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei towards occupied territories, according to the state broadcaster IRIB.
