A suicide bomber and armed militants attacked a security checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least three police officers. The incident occurred in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the border with Afghanistan.

The explosives-filled vehicle detonated near the post, causing a heavy exchange of gunfire and several blasts. The security post collapsed, and nearby homes were damaged.

Police officials said the operation was still underway, and the full scale of the destruction would become clear after the fighting ended.

A militant alliance called Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack, which risks increasing tensions along Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.

Rescue teams and ambulances were rushed to the site, and an emergency was declared at government hospitals in Bannu.
