A powerful storm brought baseball-sized hail and a tornado warning to parts of Dane County in northeastern Madison, Wisconsin, on Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the area, which remained in effect until 6:00 p.m. CDT.

Residents were forced into shelters as the severe thunderstorm with a confirmed radar-indicated rotation barreled across the region, causing destructive winds and hail.

Forecasters warned of a tornado and three-inch hail as primary hazards, with flying debris and damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles expected.

No immediate reports of confirmed tornado touchdowns or major injuries were available as the warning was active.

A Tornado Watch 109 was also issued for 20 counties across southeast, south central, and east central Wisconsin, where conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes.
