US President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, citing productive talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives.
According to Trump, Netanyahu assured him that Israeli troops would not advance into Beirut's southern suburbs, while Hezbollah agreed to cease attacks on Israel.
The apparent breakthrough comes amid fears that Israel's escalating bombardment of southern Lebanon could complicate peace talks involving Iran.
Over 3,400 people have been killed and more than 10,200 wounded in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, with the conflict displacing over 1.2 million people in Lebanon.
Trump also announced that talks with Iran are continuing at a rapid pace, despite Tehran suspending discussions in protest against Israel's offensive in Lebanon.
