The US Department of Labor has announced $81 million in grant funding to support reentry job training and registered apprenticeships for individuals returning to their communities after incarceration.

The RESTART initiative aims to help formerly incarcerated individuals gain job training, work experience, and find jobs in skilled trades and in-demand fields.

Eligible organizations can apply for funding to create programs that train ex-offenders for high-need jobs and help them become productive members of the US economy.

The grants will support programs like pre-apprenticeships, hands-on job training, and paid work experience, with a focus on shipbuilding and partnerships with Registered Apprenticeship sponsors.

The Department of Labor plans to support up to 20 RESTART projects across the country, with priority given to national or regional organizations serving youth and young adults.

Organizations interested in applying should follow the steps outlined on the grants.gov website, with a funding opportunity announcement issued on February 25, 2026, and a last date to apply on April 15, 2026.
