The United States is reportedly moving more troops and military hardware into West Asia as it prepares to sit across the table from Iran in Pakistan. US jet fighters and attack aircraft have arrived in the region, with another 1,500 to 2,000 troops from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division expected to follow.

Vice President JD Vance landed in Pakistan ahead of the talks, which are expected to focus on stabilising the US-Iran ceasefire and preventing a return to open war.

US officials believe China may be preparing to transfer shoulder-fired anti-aircraft systems to Iran, despite China's denial of supplying weapons to any side.

The US now has over 50,000 troops in the region, with advanced aircraft and aircraft carriers part of the current deployment.
