US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a set of initiatives to assist Spirit Airlines customers stranded after the airline's abrupt closure. Stranded passengers can rebook their tickets with alternative airlines at limited or discounted rates.

The measures include capped ticket prices, special promotions, and job opportunities for Spirit's workforce. Major US airlines are offering reduced fares, travel pass benefits, and spare jump seats to Spirit employees.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United are providing reduced fares on high-demand Spirit routes, while Frontier is offering discounts of up to 50% on base fares. Spirit employees can also access preferential employment interviews and microsites for career transition.

Ticket holders can also seek refunds through credit card companies, travel insurance, or by submitting a bankruptcy claim. The US government has criticized the Biden administration for obstructing a merger between Spirit and JetBlue, which led to the airline's closure.
