US Judge Zia Faruqui is facing backlash after apologizing to White House Correspondents' Dinner shooter Cole Tomas Allen for the treatment he received in jail.

Allen has been accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, and Faruqui apologized for the 'legally deficient' treatment he got, which included being placed on suicide watch, separated from other inmates, and denied access to a Bible.

Faruqui's statement drew backlash from many online, with some calling the judiciary a 'problem' and DC judges an 'absolute JOKE.'

Faruqui has a background in law, having attended Georgetown University and Georgetown Law, and was appointed US Magistrate Judge for the District of Columbia in 2020.

He previously worked as a litigation associate and served as a federal prosecutor in the US Attorney's Offices in St. Louis and Washington.

Faruqui compared Allen's treatment to that of defendants in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, who were treated more fairly despite displaying comparable conduct.
