The US military conducted a successful test launch of its Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, despite escalating tensions with Iran.
The test, designated GT 255, was scheduled years ago and was not a response to current events, according to the US Air Force.
The Minuteman III, a key component of the US nuclear triad, can travel 6,000 miles at speeds of over 15,000 mph and hold nuclear warheads 20 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.
The US currently has 400 Minuteman III missiles spread across Air Force Bases in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.
The test launch comes as the US-Iran conflict continues to escalate, with the conflict expanding across the Middle East and nearing the Indian Ocean.
