US Vice President JD Vance will lead a delegation to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran, the White House announced on Wednesday. The talks are set to begin on Saturday in Islamabad, with Vance being joined by US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump.
The announcement comes after a ceasefire between the US and Iran was announced, but was flouted just hours later as Israel pounded Lebanon, killing over a hundred people. Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the US to choose between continuing the war through Israel or respecting the terms of the ceasefire.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also urged all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire, which is set to last for two weeks. However, US Vice President JD Vance has clarified that Lebanon was not included in the US-Iran ceasefire agreement, and that Israel has agreed to keep itself in check in the region.
