US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to lead peace talks with Iran, mediated by Pakistan. The talks aim to resolve the six-week war, currently paused due to a fragile ceasefire.
Vance was joined by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran is represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati.
Pakistan's Field Marshal Asim Munir, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received Vance and the Iranian delegation. Iranian leaders expressed goodwill but lack of trust in the US.
The talks are expected to focus on the Strait of Hormuz and an Israeli strike in Lebanon, with Iran demanding control over the passage and the release of blocked assets.
