Nearly 1,200 Indian nationals, mostly students, have returned from Iran since the start of the West Asia conflict, officials said on Wednesday.

About 9,000 Indians were in Iran when military strikes by Israel and the US triggered the conflict, but scores of students were moved to safer locations and hundreds have left via land border crossings.

The Indian embassy in Tehran facilitated the movement of 1,171 nationals, including 818 students, to exit Iran via land borders into Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Three Indian nationals sustained minor injuries in attacks in Dubai, while eight have died in West Asia since the conflict began, including five in attacks in Kuwait, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, and three seafarers killed in attacks on merchant vessels.

India's leadership has focused on the security and well-being of 10 million Indians living in the region, with missions facilitating visas and transit through neighbouring nations for Indians in countries with closed airspace.
