Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad has questioned India's T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, coach Gautam Gambhir, and ICC chairman Jay Shah over taking the World Cup trophy to a Hindu temple in Ahmedabad.

Azad, a member of the 1983 ODI World Cup-winning team, said it was shameful that one religion got precedence and called for inclusivity.

He mentioned non-Hindu players like Mohammad Siraj and Sanju Samson, who were part of the team, and said they never paraded the trophy at a mosque or church.

Azad's party, TMC, has been at loggerheads with the BJP over communal politics in Bengal ahead of state elections.

Team India made history by securing a record-breaking third T20 World Cup title and becoming the first-ever team to defend the title and win it as a home nation.
