West Bengal's first Bharatiya Janata Party government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has made several key decisions in its first cabinet meeting. The cabinet has approved the transfer of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for setting up fences along the Bangladesh border, with the process to be completed within 45 days.

The census process has also been given the green light, with the Centre having notified the Trinamool Congress government on June 25, 2025, to start the process. Adhikari stated that the files were lying idle, and the previous government did not act to deprive women of the reservation the Centre wanted to start.

The cabinet has also decided to implement all Central schemes, including Ayushman Bharat, PM Vishwakarma, PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and crop insurance, immediately. Additionally, training centres for officers under national and state cadres have been announced.

The government has also relaxed the age limit for government job applications by five years, a promise made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the polls. Furthermore, the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita has been enforced from today, replacing the Indian Penal Code.
