Just days after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was scrambling for support to form government in the state, AIADMK leader CV Shanmugham said that a faction of the party has decided to extend support to him.
The development comes amid reports of rift within AIADMK, particularly with party chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami, also known as EPS, over whether or not to support Vijay.
Shanmugham claimed that his faction has the majority of party MLAs who have decided to support TVK, saying 'We accept people's mandate. The people's mandate is not for TVK. The mandate is for Chief Minister Vijay.'
This comes just two days after Vijay took oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, May 10, and a day ahead of his floor test in the state legislative assembly on Wednesday, May 13.
Shanmugham's faction will meet Vijay to extend support to his government, amid claims that EPS wanted to ally with DMK to form government.
