In a major development ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the AIADMK and PMK have finalised their alliance, with AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) joining forces with PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss in a joint press conference. The move comes as the BJP strengthens its push to expand the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state. EPS, also the Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu, stated that the alliance aims to defeat the ruling DMK government, which he described as 'anti-people'. He also hinted at potential new additions to the alliance, saying 'more parties will soon join us'. The two parties have reportedly reached a seat-sharing agreement for the 234-member assembly elections. EPS later met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss key electoral issues, including narrative development, party inclusion, and seat allocation. The BJP is focusing on a strong coalition against the DMK, with plans for extensive political programmes and cultural events to woo voters. The BJP is banking on the development narrative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, anti-incumbency against the DMK, and the cadre strength of its main ally, the AIADMK, to secure a win in the polls. While there are no disagreements between leaders, logistical issues need to be addressed, including the possibility of adding smaller parties to the coalition. The BJP has indicated its willingness to allocate seats from its quota to smaller factions and has begun shaping its outreach in Tamil Nadu, including extensive on-ground campaigning and rallies addressed by senior leaders. The party is anticipating high-profile visits from Prime Minister Modi and other senior ministers, as well as potential announcements and project inaugurations in the state.
