An Air India aircraft from Delhi to Bengaluru had to be grounded after its tail struck the runway while landing at the airport on Thursday.

According to officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), an investigation into the matter has been initiated, and the operating pilots have been off rostered pending the investigation.

Air India confirmed the incident, stating that Flight AI2651 experienced a tail-strike during landing on May 21. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew disembarked normally.

The airline also confirmed that its subsequent flight, AI2652 from Bengaluru to Delhi, was cancelled due to the incident.

Alternative arrangements are being made to accommodate affected passengers at the earliest, and Air India regrets the inconvenience caused. The safety of its passengers and crew remains its highest priority.

The incident is believed to have occurred due to wake turbulence, which caused the pilots to perform a go-around at the last minute.

In a separate incident, Air India flight AI 2802 from Bengaluru to Delhi declared a full emergency at Delhi airport due to a fire in one of its engines.

The aircraft landed safely at runway 29R at around 9:30 pm, but had to be towed away. The 171 passengers on board are safe and have disembarked normally.
