The Election Commission of India has announced that the bypoll to the Baramati assembly constituency in Maharashtra will be held on April 23. The seat fell vacant following the death of NCP leader Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28.
Ajit's wife Sunetra Pawar, who took over as deputy CM after his death, has been finalised as the NCP candidate for the Baramati by-election.
The NCP has a possibility of winning the seat unopposed, as the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has allotted the Baramati seat to the NCP.
The bypoll in the Rahuri assembly segment will also be held on April 23, necessitated by the death of BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile.
Results for both bypolls will be out on May 4.
