In a bid to transform Amaravati into a major tourist hub, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to develop the Krishna riverbank as a Marina Waterfront. The ambitious project aims to create a leisure and tourism destination, with a comprehensive master plan expected to be prepared soon. As part of the riverfront development, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has agreed to allocate land for a boat parking facility, jetties, tourism leisure boats, food plazas, and landscaping works. The Chief Minister has also instructed officials to invite tenders under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for the development of waterfront amenities. Naidu's vision for Amaravati as a 'blue-green city' also includes the construction of internal canals and beautification of the urban landscape. The proposed new barrage upstream of the Prakasam Barrage is expected to strengthen water resources for the capital city. The APCRDA meeting also discussed exploring islands in the Krishna River for tourism development, which could lead to the creation of world-class waterfronts on both sides of the river. To ensure sustainable income streams, the Chief Minister has directed officials to study revenue models and asset monetisation strategies for the Amaravati Development Corporation and APCRDA. Additionally, the meeting decided to commence land pooling in seven villages as part of the second phase of Amaravati's development, which includes projects such as a smart industries zone, an international airport, and an international sports city. The government has also announced a pension scheme for orphaned minors in the capital region, with a monthly pension of ₹5,000. The scheme is an extension of the existing Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) pension scheme for landless poor. The development of Amaravati as a major tourist destination is expected to create new economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for residents in the capital region.
