The Chhattisgarh high court has convicted former assembly member Amit Jogi of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ramavatar Jaggi’s murder, which occurred around 23 years ago.

A bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Kumar Verma set aside a trial court’s 2007 acquittal and pronounced Amit Jogi guilty.

The high court reopened the case last month after the Supreme Court asked it to reconsider the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s plea challenging the acquittal.

Amit Jogi has expressed confidence that he would get relief from the Supreme Court and has full faith in the judicial system.

Satish Jaggi, son of Ramavatar Jaggi, welcomed the verdict, saying “Truth has prevailed.”
