Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma filed his nomination papers from the Jalukbari constituency on Friday, seeking re-election for the sixth term in a row.

Accompanied by his family and BJP leaders, Sarma led a large procession from the Veterinary Field at Khanapara to the election office at Hengrabari, braving incessant rains.

Thousands of people from his constituency, mostly women, turned out to support him, despite the heavy rain.

Sarma thanked the people for their support and expressed confidence that they will bless and support him in the upcoming polls.

He also urged people to bless him and all candidates of the BJP and its alliance partners.

The last date for filing of nomination papers was March 23, and the elections to the 126-member assembly will be held on April 9.
