A shocking incident of violence erupted in Assam's Sribhumi district on Monday, leaving a 35-year-old Congress functionary critically injured. Jillur Nur, a local Congress leader from the Umorpur area, was stabbed by his colleague Shahanaz Hussain at a restaurant in Silchar. The altercation began after a party meeting attended by senior leaders in the Nilambazar area. While the motive behind the attack is still unclear, police are investigating the incident and trying to trace the prime suspect. The victim was initially taken to Sribhumi Civil Hospital and later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for injuries to his hand and chest. The Sribhumi Congress district president, Tapash Purkayastha, has condemned the incident and hinted at personal issues between the two individuals. The party plans to take necessary action at the party level.
