A 55-year-old man from Jammu and Kashmir, identified as Ahad Sheikh, has been detained by UP authorities for allegedly trying to offer namaz inside the heavily secured Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya. Sheikh, a resident of Shopian, entered the temple premises on Friday and sat near the Sita Rasoi area, prompting security officials and onlookers to intervene. According to Superintendent of Police (Security) Balramchari Dubey, Sheikh was 'preparing to offer namaz' when he was stopped. Eyewitnesses claim he also raised slogans inside the temple complex. The UP police are investigating the incident, questioning Sheikh, and examining his travel history and motive for visiting Ayodhya. Sheikh's family has come forward, stating that he has been mentally ill and providing medical records from the psychiatry department of Srinagar Medical College as evidence. 'We were unaware of his plans, and he is completely unsound,' Sheikh's son, Imran, told PTI. The UP police are reviewing how Sheikh entered the temple despite heightened security measures. Preliminary searches found food items like cashews and raisins in his possession. Sheikh claimed he was traveling to Ajmer, but it remains unclear how he reached Ayodhya. The incident has raised concerns about temple security, and officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding Sheikh's visit.
