West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee is set to kick off a month-long campaign across the state, starting January 2, to galvanize support ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. The campaign, titled 'Jotoi Koro Hamla, Abar Jitbe Bangla' (No matter how much you attack, Bengal will win again), aims to counter what Banerjee perceives as a targeted campaign against the state by the central government. Banerjee, who represents Diamond Harbor in Parliament, said the campaign will focus on rallies, roadshows, and community interactions, including a rally at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas on January 2 and a community interaction with tea garden workers in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on January 3. The TMC leader accused the central government of singling out Bengal and targeting its people, citing the stoppage of central funds, disrespect towards Bengali icons, and attacks on Bengali-speaking people in BJP-ruled states. He also pointed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which aims to update the electoral roll, as an attempt to disenfranchise Bengal's voters. Banerjee's campaign is part of a broader outreach effort by the TMC, which includes reaching out to 1,800 influencers with the state government's report card and organizing booth-level outreach. The assembly election dates are expected to be announced in February, after the SIR is completed and the final electoral roll is published. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched a report card titled 'Unnayaner Panchali' earlier this month, highlighting the 15-year achievements of the TMC government, which is set to complete its term in May 2026.
