EVM strongrooms have become a focal point in Bengal as both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Opposition BJP level allegations of irregularities. The Election Commission has ordered repolling in 15 booths across the state.
The BJP has accused the TMC of electoral malpractice, while the TMC has raised concerns over 'intermittent CCTV disruptions' in strong rooms where EVMs and VVPATs are stored.
TMC leader Shashi Panja has demanded a complete report of CCTV malfunctions, full surveillance footage, and logs for the affected periods. She warned that if full transparency is not ensured, the party will pursue 'appropriate agitation based on democratic principles.'
BJP leader Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay alleged that an EVM strongroom was opened 'early' and multiple times without prior intimation. He claimed that officials were unable to provide any answer when questioned.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused the TMC of attempting to discredit institutions ahead of a likely defeat. He also alleged multiple violations on polling day, including affixing tape on BJP's symbol on EVM and intimidating people from going to booths.
Repolling is underway in 15 polling stations across the state, and the Election Commission is expected to take a call on repolling in the Falta assembly constituency.
