A severe storm and heavy rain swept across Bengaluru on Wednesday evening, causing widespread destruction and chaos in the city. The storm led to the deaths of 10 people, including a child, and left several others injured. The compound wall of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collapsed due to heavy rains, resulting in the loss of lives.
Several areas of the city experienced waist-deep water, while key government offices, including parts of Vidhana Soudha, were inundated. The storm also caused electrocution and structural damage in various parts of the city.
Vehicle movement was severely affected, with vehicles moving at a snail's pace due to the heavy rain. The city's iconic bookstore, The Bookworm, was also flooded, with over 4,000 books destroyed. The reading community has come together to offer support and help the bookstore recover from the loss.
The Karnataka government has been asked to take precautions to prevent such incidents in the future. The government hospital is located in a densely populated area and sees heavy daily footfall, making it a potential hotspot for accidents.
