The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to seek a CBI probe into the dowry death case of a 31-year-old model who was married to a Bhopal lawyer. The decision comes as a Bhopal district court rejected the family's plea for a second postmortem of the deceased.

The deceased's father had met Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who assured him of government help in securing justice. The police would also challenge the interim bail granted to the woman's mother-in-law, a retired district judge and chairperson of the Consumer Forum.

The court directed the Katara Hills police to preserve the body at a facility within the state to prevent decomposition. However, the police expressed concern over the condition of the body, citing a letter from the Forensic Medicine department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal that the body was decomposing and required a -80°C freezer to prevent further decomposition.

The victim's advocate claimed there was a delay in informing the family about her death and alleged that the police and administration were attempting to destroy evidence. The police, however, said they had no objection to a second postmortem and that the preliminary report suggested death by hanging with a nylon belt.

A case was registered against the retired judge and her 33-year-old son under various sections of the law, including the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
