The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 88 candidates for the upcoming Assam assembly elections, featuring Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari and Pradyut Bordoloi from Dispur.
Pradyut Bordoloi, a former Congress MP from Nagaon, joined the BJP on Wednesday after resigning from the Congress, citing differences and allegations of being humiliated.
In his resignation, Bordoloi stated that he had joined the Congress at 16 and had been feeling insulted, sidelined, and suffocated in the party.
He expressed his desire to do something better for the people of Assam and felt that he could offer his services to the BJP to help make Assam one of the best states in the country.
Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi termed Bordoloi's resignation as unfortunate but a personal decision, stating that the Congress had given him a ticket in the last Lok Sabha election and his son Prateek a ticket in the current Assembly election.
