Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's backing of India's response to the ongoing West Asia crisis has drawn attention, with the BJP using his stance to target the Congress party.
Tharoor described India's response as an example of 'responsible statecraft,' saying restraint in a volatile situation reflects strength, not weakness.
He suggested countries like India should take a constructive diplomatic role to reduce tensions, calling for peace and giving both sides a 'ladder to climb down.'
The BJP was quick to target the Congress party over Tharoor's comments, with party spokesperson CR Kesavan saying it marks a shift from Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi's repeated criticism of the government.
Congress leaders, however, disagreed with Tharoor's remarks, with Supriya Shrinate describing India's 'silence' on the crisis as 'condemnable' and questioning the country's morality.
India has said recent attacks on energy installations across the Gulf region are 'deeply concerning' and add to the uncertainty in the global energy situation.
