Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant confirmed on Saturday that talks between the Shiv Sena and the BJP for the January 15 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are nearing completion. The alliance, known as Mahayuti, is expected to contest all 227 seats in the BMC, Asia's largest civic body. Despite previous reports of a deadlock over seat sharing, Samant expressed confidence that the alliance will secure power in the BMC. The BJP and Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, have been engaged in seat-sharing talks for several days. While some parties have formed alliances to secure their existence, the two ruling parties are keen on maintaining their partnership. The elections to 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra are scheduled for January 15, with the last date to file nominations being December 30. In Thane, Shiv Sena leaders met with the BJP for a third time to iron out differences over a few wards. Shiv Sena Minister Sanjay Shirsat confirmed that seat sharing between the two parties has been almost finalized, with leaders discussing the remaining issues. The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance is set to contest the civic body polls as Mahayuti, with the outcome expected to be a decisive victory for the ruling parties.
