TMC Lok Sabha member Kalyan Banerjee alleged that he was attacked by BJP workers in saffron clothes at Chanditala in West Bengal's Hooghly district. He sustained a head injury during the alleged attack.

Banerjee was going to the police station to submit a memorandum regarding post-poll violence when the incident occurred. A group of people, allegedly BJP workers, waved black flags at him and shouted slogans of 'chor' (thief).

The police were present at the spot, but Banerjee alleged that they did not take any action. He sat on a dharna (sit-in-demonstration) near the Chanditala police station after the alleged attack.

The TMC alleged that Bengal was witnessing complete lawlessness after its defeat to the BJP in the two-phase assembly polls. The BJP, however, denied the allegations and said that the accused were TMC workers.
