High drama unfolded in the Calcutta High Court on Friday as a hearing on Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at the home of I-PAC director Pratik Jain descended into chaos. The case, linked to the alleged 2020 coal smuggling case, has sparked intense political tension in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the ED of attempting to 'steal' her party's documents and strategy, which she claimed contained details of candidates for the elections. "You are using agencies to loot our papers, our strategy, our voters, our data, our Bengal...," she told reporters, targeting the BJP. The Calcutta High Court adjourned the hearing after Justice Suvra Ghosh observed that the courtroom became 'unconducive' due to 'enormous disturbance and commotion.' Despite repeated pleas for order, the judge said that her requests 'fell on deaf ears.' The court was set to hear two separate petitions filed by the ED and the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). The ED seeks a CBI inquiry against Banerjee for allegedly blocking an ongoing investigation, while the TMC seeks orders to stop the central agency from sharing or leaking any information linked to the party. The confrontation between the TMC and the Centre escalated on Friday as Banerjee led a massive protest rally in Kolkata over the ED raid at I-PAC, accusing the BJP of using central agencies to 'steal' the TMC's election strategy.
