The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has discarded allegations that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kapil Mishra was involved in the death of a 23-year-old man, Faizan, during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
The CBI found that no other victim or witness supported the claim that Mishra had exhorted the public for violence, and his call detail record (CDR) confirmed he was not present at the incident site on the day of the incident.
The chargesheet named head constable Ravinder Kumar and constable Pawan as accused in Faizan’s death under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 304(II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
Faizan and four others were allegedly thrashed by police personnel on February 24, 2020, and forced to sing the national anthem.
The CBI submitted a 32-page chargesheet in the case, which will now be taken up on March 14 for scrutiny of documents.
