The Calcutta high court has ordered a CBI special investigation team to probe the 2024 RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case, seeking a report by June 25.

The court directed the team to examine the sequence of events surrounding the crime, including the victim's dinner with junior doctors and the cremation of her body.

The CBI will also file a report on investigations conducted after the October 7, 2024, charge sheet, which led to the jail term for a former civic volunteer.

The case was a key issue in the recent Bengal assembly polls, with the BJP promising an inquiry commission if it came to power.
