The Union home ministry has informed the West Bengal government that 2,400 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed in the state ahead of assembly elections.
Approximately 500 companies will be retained in the state even after the elections to prevent post-poll violence.
480 companies have already been deployed in the state earlier this month, and the centre will deploy another 1,920 companies over the next month in phases.
The first batch of 300 companies will be inducted by March 31, followed by two more batches of 300 companies each by April 7 and April 10.
By April 13, another 277 companies will arrive, and the last batch comprising 743 companies will arrive by April 17.
The assembly elections in the state will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
