An emergency evacuation was launched at Chandigarh Airport on Tuesday after a passenger's power bank caught on fire on an IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Chandigarh.

According to officials, the incident occurred while the flight was stationary after landing, and an immediate evacuation was carried out due to safety concerns.

Five passengers are suspected to be injured and have been taken to the hospital, while all customers have been safely moved to the terminal and are being attended to by the team.

The DGCA confirmed that the fire was caused by a power bank kept in a seat pocket by a passenger, and cabin crew used fire extinguisher bottles to extinguish the fire.

The DGCA added that power banks are allowed on flights only in carry-on luggage and cannot be stored in overhead compartments due to fire safety concerns.
