Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai presented a roadmap to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outlining plans for education hubs, a medical college, irrigation projects, and eco-tourism in the erstwhile Maoist stronghold of Bastar.
The roadmap includes establishing two major education hubs in Jagargunda and Geedam, and a medical college in Geedam to fill the long-standing gaps in health infrastructure.
The government also plans to build two barrages on the Indravati River, which cuts across Bastar and its surrounding areas, and develop adventure tourism, canopy walks, and a glass bridge in the jungles to attract visitors.
The area was previously considered a core part of the so-called 'Red Corridor', but the government claims it is now safe for visitors following the surrender of 4,839 Maoists, the killing of 706, and the arrest of 2,218 over the past three years.
