A Congress candidate in Assam was attacked by unidentified miscreants while campaigning for the upcoming assembly election, leaving him hospitalized.
Sunil Kumar Chhetri, the Congress candidate from the Naduar seat, was beaten by several persons carrying sticks near a roadside, according to a viral video clip.
The President of Assam Congress, Gaurav Gogoi, condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators, blaming the ruling BJP workers.
Chhetri, a strong representative of the Gorkha community, is undergoing treatment at Tezpur Medical College, along with several other Congress workers, including senior spokesperson Rupa Kalita.
The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) expressed outrage over the incident, stating that it was an assault on democratic values and principles.
