The Congress party has adopted a more BJP-like approach to leadership transitions and decision-making, as seen in the peaceful change of guard in Karnataka. Outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was given a dignified exit, with Rahul Gandhi offering him a ministerial berth for his son and a Rajya Sabha seat. This marked a significant departure from the party's previous handling of mid-term changes, such as in Punjab in 2021. The Congress's new approach has been praised by some analysts, who see it as a sign of the party's growing agility and willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.

The party's decision to dump the DMK for the TVK in Tamil Nadu, on results day itself, was also seen as a bold move that reflects the BJP's style of decision-making. Rahul Gandhi's willingness to take risks and adapt to changing circumstances has been praised by party functionaries, who see it as a key factor in the party's success.

However, not everyone is convinced that the Congress is copying the BJP playbook. Party MP Jairam Ramesh has protested that the party's new approach is simply a return to its traditional values, rather than a copycat strategy.

The choice of VD Satheesan as Kerala Chief Minister has also been seen as an indication of the party's new approach, with some analysts praising the party's willingness to respect the choice of a majority of the party rather than forcing its own candidate.
