The Congress party has raised concerns over the Election Commission's notice to party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, calling it 'smacks of ulterior motives'. The party claims there is no violation of the model code of conduct or any other laws.
In a summary response to the notice, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the party seeks time to file a detailed response within one week.
Ramesh questioned the short notice given to Kharge, stating that it is not sufficient time given the party president's busy election schedule.
The Congress also accused the Election Commission of issuing show cause notices based on the ruling party's complainants' versions without application of mind.
The party has sought time for a senior delegation of Congress leaders to present a detailed response.
