Silchar: The Gauhati High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail petition of Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.
The single bench of Justice Parthiv Jyoti Saikia pointed out that the petitioner had not made any assertion that the police had made fabricated claims, and that custodial interrogation is necessary to find out who Khera's associates are and how they collected the documents.
The court held that the petitioner does not deserve the privilege of anticipatory bail, and that the case falls within the category of the possession of forged documents.
A lawyer representing Khera has urged the Gauhati High Court Chief Justice to recall the order, claiming that the state's Advocate General represented the complainant, violating norms of the Bar Council of India.
