Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief and a three-time MP, is leading the Congress push for a comeback in the 2026 Assembly polls against the ruling BJP.

Gogoi, son of Assam's longest-serving Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, won from Jorhat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with a strong margin of over 1.4 lakh votes.

As a Congress MP, Gogoi has been actively involved in various discussions within the parliament and has opposed bills like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) due to its implications on Assam.

With over 2.49 crore voters taking part in the poll, this year's election is witnessing multi-cornered contests due to the split between Congress and AIUDF.
