Senior Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi made a pointed appeal to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the Pawan Khera row, citing the Supreme Court's relief to the Congress leader.

Singhvi stressed that arrest should be a 'last resort' and not a routine practice, while Sarma responded sharply, saying he doesn't need 'lessons on democracy' from Singhvi.

The Supreme Court granted Pawan Khera anticipatory bail, noting that the case appeared to be driven by political rivalry. The court observed that the allegations and counter-allegations were prima facie politically motivated and could be examined during trial.

Khera has been directed to cooperate fully with the investigation, appear before police when required, and refrain from influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence.
