The Congress party in Kerala has presented a united front, expressing confidence in winning over 100 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections. The two-day leadership conference 'Lakshya 2026' brought together around 150 state and district leaders to strategize and create an action plan for the elections. At the conference, attended by top Congress leaders and election strategist Sunil Kanugolu, the party discussed its chances in Kerala, including micro-level details on constituencies where it holds an advantage and those where it needs to galvanize more energy and coordination. To intensify anti-incumbency sentiments against the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government, the Congress plans to highlight issues such as the theft of gold assets at the Sabarimala temple, price rise, high inflation, joblessness, and administrative paralysis. The party has announced plans for a statewide yatra in February under the leadership of VD Satheesan to spread awareness about its positions on several key issues. Satheesan, in his address, reiterated that the UDF will attract constituents from the LDF and NDA, and that it has become a broader, political platform. Congress leader VD Satheesan dispelled criticism of a fight within the party for the CM's chair, stating that it's the CPM's narrative and that the party has a galaxy of leaders who will act as a team. The party has also announced plans for an Assembly march in Thiruvananthapuram on January 20 and protest marches in all 14 districts on January 23, demanding a transparent probe into the Sabarimala gold theft case.
