The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has inaugurated a memorial to honour its 25 personnel killed in a 2017 Maoist ambush in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

The memorial was dedicated by CRPF Deputy Inspector General Anand Rajpurohit at the headquarters of the 74th battalion at Dornapal in the district.

The 25 personnel were killed on April 24, 2017, when Maoists ambushed them while they were providing security for road construction work.

DIG Rajpurohit said the sacrifices of the fallen jawans symbolise their commitment to the nation's unity, integrity, and security.

The memorial was formally inaugurated with rituals and ceremonies, followed by a guard of honour and a two-minute silence in memory of the fallen jawans.

The Baster region, where Sukma is located, had witnessed intense Maoist activity, particularly during the construction of the Dornapal-Jagargunda road.

The sacrifices of the personnel have significantly contributed to improving security in the region.
