Delhi residents are experiencing a significant drop in temperature, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for the city. On Thursday, the minimum temperature in Delhi recorded a low of 5.8°C at Safdarjung station, marking one of the lowest temperatures of the season. This reading is one degree below the normal temperature for the season. The IMD has predicted a further drop in temperature, with moderate to dense fog expected at some places on Friday, especially during the morning hours. The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 16-18°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to fall between 5-7°C. The weather department has also warned of light to moderate rain and light thunderstorms in Haryana on Friday, with some parts of Delhi expected to receive light rainfall. A fog hole over Delhi-NCR has contributed to a marginal rise in maximum temperatures, but the city remains under a chilly spell. According to Navdeep Dahiya, an amateur weatherman, the fog hole is responsible for the rise in maximum temperatures, with upper-level fog persisting in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Visibility in Delhi's Palam area was reduced to 100 meters due to dense fog on Thursday. The IMD has predicted that the winter chill will intensify across northern India until January 15. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe in the cold weather conditions.
