Delhi is set for a change as the city's 11 revenue districts are being reorganised into 13 to improve service delivery and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. The new framework, which takes effect on January 1, 2026, aims to streamline services, reduce jurisdictional overlaps, and enhance coordination with civic agencies. The reorganisation, approved by the Delhi cabinet on December 11, was formally notified after the lieutenant governor's assent. The move aims to align revenue district boundaries with those of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), addressing long-standing issues such as delays in grievance redressal, enforcement, land record management, and disaster planning. Here's a list of the 13 new districts: - South East - Old Delhi - North - New Delhi - Central - Central North - South West - Outer North - North West - North East - East - South - South West What's changed? - Shahdara district has been removed. - Three new districts - Old Delhi, Central North, and Outer North - have been created. - The number of sub-divisions and sub-registrar offices will increase from 22 to 39. The new districts will be: - Old Delhi: Sadar Bazar and Chandni Chowk - Central North: Shakur Basti, Shalimar Bagh, and Model Town - Outer North: Mundka, Narela, and Bawana The reorganisation aims to balance workloads and ensure quicker response times in high-density areas. Officials said the persistent mismatch between revenue and municipal boundaries was a key driver behind the restructuring. By aligning the boundaries, the government expects to improve coordination during inspections, enforcement drives, and urban planning exercises. A key feature of the restructuring is the planned creation of district-level Mini Secretariats in each of the 13 districts. These integrated hubs will house multiple offices under one roof, making it easier for citizens to access services like property registration, affidavits, and certificates.
