The Delhi High Court has directed the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to expedite the visa application of Pernia Qureshi, daughter of meat exporter Moin Akhtar Qureshi, within 10 days.

The court's order comes after Pernia's counsel submitted that her earlier application already contained the correct passport details, and that a fresh application filed in terms of the court's directions is still pending consideration.

Pernia, a US citizen, challenged the Centre's decision to initiate steps to cancel her Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) status and a 2018 communication stating that individuals whose parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents were citizens of Pakistan were ineligible for an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

The court had earlier restrained the Centre from revoking her PIO cardholder status until the next hearing date, noting that it was not disputed that she was an Indian citizen for 12 years.
